Worst pop/rock songs of the 1970s.

Although the 1970s have been said to be a critical period in Rock 'n' Roll history, they also birthed some of the worst music ever. As a child of the 70s, I feel particulary qualified to assemble this list of cheesy songs, all of which are, fortunately, seldom heard on the radio today. Many seem to revolve around the theme of death, but not in a healthy way. They are, by and large, sappy, maudlin, and heavy-handed.

10. "Timothy" by The Buoys, 1971. Three guys trapped in a mine eat the title character. Written by Rupert Holmes, who later gave us #9.
9. "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)" by Rupert Holmes, 1979. A want ad intending infidelity leads back to current partner, and all is forgiven!
8. "Hot Child in the City" by Nick Gilder, 1978. Few songs have celebrated teenage prostitution so well.
7. "Having my Baby" by Paul Anka, 1974. What a lovely way of saying what you're thinking of me. But let's consider her alternatives.
6. "Last Kiss" by Wednesday, 1974. Good behavior motivated by death of girlfriend.
5. "Lonely Boy" by Andrew Gold, 1976. A lifetime of psychological trauma summarized in a single song.
4. "You Light Up My Life" by Debbie Boone, 1977. After a year of having this song rammed down our ears, we were ready to turn the light off.
3. "Seasons in the Sun" by Terry Jacks, 1974. First person singer dies in the end. How does that work?
2. "Billy, Don't Be a Hero" by Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods, 1974. Dead soldier boyfriend.
1. "Wildfire" by Michael Martin Murphey, 1975. Dead horse, dead girl, singer next.

Afterthought: Disco, Country, and holdovers such as Perry Como are excluded. That would be way too easy.
